Legendary drum & bass collective SASASAS are gearing up to celebrate an incredible 10 years of tearing up stages worldwide with a monumental show at Steel Yard, London, on October 18th. This milestone event promises to be a true highlight for their fans, marking a decade of unparalleled energy, and groundbreaking sets.
From their humble beginnings to becoming one of the most in-demand acts in drum and bass, SASASAS – which currently comprises of DJs Phantasy, with MCs Shabba D, and Harry Shotta, – have consistently pushed the boundaries of what a D&B DJ / MC collective can achieve, releasing music, filming a documentary and screening it in cinemas, appearing at sound clashes, and expanding their reach beyond their own genre.
SASASAS sadly lost both MC Stormin & the late, great MC Skibadee along the way, but both artists legacies will be remembered and celebrated as part of this 10 year milestone event.
The Genesis of SASASAS
Recalling the genesis of the supergroup, DJ Phantasy shares, “SASASAS came together in the most natural way possible, just a group of friends wanting to do something special. We decided to put on a one off set for the very last ever drum and bass event at a London nightclub called Area. From that very first night, the anticipation was electric. In the days and weeks that followed, social media was buzzing about that set, and the energy around it was unreal.”
“Grant, who owns One Nation and Westfest, rang me up and asked if we could bring that same magic to Westfest. We did, and that Westfest set sent everything into overdrive. The reaction was insane, and before we knew it, the booking requests were coming in thick and fast.”
“The vibes were unreal, but the most beautiful part was the bond between us, both as friends and as artists, and our connection with the drum and bass community, which spans so many generations of ravers.”
“What an incredible journey it has been, from that one off night to something that has meant so much to so many.“
Memorable Shows
Over the past ten years, SASASAS have graced countless stages, leaving an indelible mark on festivals and clubs across the globe. When asked about their most memorable performances, MC Shabba D fondly reminisces, “One of the first big shows we did ‘Westfest’ the vibes were just electric, amazing. I think it shocked all of us to see how we orchestrated that set, that was the first proper connection for SASASAS. We went to New Zealand & Australia a few times, but I think the 2nd time we went we did a show on New Years Eve which I remember as being incredible. Then places like South Korea stand out, it was a weird place to go & perform but it was amazing, it was sick to be able to hang out with the South Korean fans“
10 Years of SASASAS at Steel Yard
Looking ahead to the upcoming London celebration, fans can expect nothing short of an explosive night. Harry Shotta teases what’s in store: “The show at the steelyard is going to be a celebration of an incredible 10 years in the game and a big salute to our brothers we’ve lost along the way. We have done so much and was one of the first MC led groups to play big stages at festivals and smash the stigma attached to MCs in Drum and Bass. To have been doing this for 10 years as a brand is something we want to celebrate with all the supporters from all over the world. It’s a big moment for us so we’re going to be pulling out all the stops to make sure we bring full energy and vibe to that crowd. We can’t wait.“
The longevity and continued success of SASASAS are a testament to their unwavering passion for drum and bass and their ability to consistently deliver electrifying performances. With a decade of unforgettable moments under their belt, the October 18th show at Steel Yard is set to be a landmark event, cementing their legacy as pioneers in the scene. Don’t miss out on what promises to be an epic night of bass-heavy brilliance!
