2025 has been a year where drum & bass truly blended its underground grit with global-scale ambition. A massive highlight was the return of the legendary Valve Sound System, with Dillinja bringing his 96k rig back to London to remind the scene of the sheer physical power of low-end frequencies. This focus on heritage was mirrored by Goldie’s Rufige Kru alias making a triumphant return, proving that the technical artistry of breakbeat carnage is as relevant today as it was in the 90s.
The release calendar was dominated by heavyweights who pushed the genre’s sonic boundaries. Pendulum made waves with their Inertia album and a high-octane UK tour, while London Elektricity celebrated the scene’s collaborative spirit with the star-studded Lunatics and Legends. We also saw a significant shift toward artistic independence, most notably with Sigma releasing their first fully independent album, Day One, signaling a new era where artists are taking full creative control of their sound and branding.
On the live front, the energy shifted from dark clubs to massive, experimental arenas. Andy C finally delivered a long-awaited Boiler Room debut that set the internet on fire, while Camo & Krooked continued to blur the lines between dance music and high art with their stunning Red Bull Symphonic orchestral performances.
Ravers Selections
The year also saw the community come together to crown new royalty at the Ravers Selection Awards, where the likes of Basslayerz and Serum were celebrated for keeping the dancefloor moving.
The debut Drum & Bass Ravers Selection Awards came as a breath of fresh air for many, and judging by the amount of nominations & votes that were cast it is was clearly a hit with you guys. Boomtown, Serum, Basslayerz, B-Live, and Sudley, were just a few of the winners who collected awards from us. While it was a lot of work putting the D&B Ravers Selection Awards together, can’t wait to do it all again in 2026.
Vibrant & Unified
Ultimately, 2025 has been defined by a “best of both worlds” mentality where the genre’s history and its future collided in spectacular ways. The legendary Roni Size brought a piece of the past into the modern era with a massive 2025 remix of “Brown Paper Bag,” proving that the “Bristol Sound” remains timeless even decades later. Simultaneously, the genre’s global reach reached a new peak with mainstream titan Martin Garrix finally crossing over to release his debut D&B track, a high-energy moment that introduced a whole new audience to the 175 BPM world.
The year also showcased the incredible resilience and community spirit that makes this scene so special. Lenzman became a symbol of strength as he shared his courageous health battles with the public; the outpouring of support from fans and peers alike served as a moving reminder of the deep human connections within the music. On the events side, Hospitality announced a major new chapter by launching their high-energy Weekender at Butlins Bognor Regis, bring the D&B community together under one roof, celebrating a genre that has never felt more vibrant or unified.
