Bristol based promoters The Blast have launched a petition calling upon Ministers of Culture around the world to officially declare the date of April 17th (17.4) as Drum & Bass Day!
Emerging out of the UK’s iconic Jungle scene in the 1990s, Drum & Bass has undoubtedly been one of the country’s finest exports over the last 30 years. In that time, the boundaries of sonic production have been pushed and explored by producers, DJs and promoters not just in the UK, but in all corners of the globe – making Drum & Bass truly a worldwide community.
With combined support of Drum & Bass soldiers across the globe, the aim is for Drum & Bass to get the official recognition it deserves with its very own date!! Every fan of Liquid, Rollers, Neurofunk, Jump Up, Tech, Dancefloor, Breaks, Jungle, Half-time or any other flavour, needs to unite to cement this day as official and to celebrate an influential, unmistakable and iconic genre in dance music.
The Motivation
We spoke to the team at The Blast to find out their motivations for wanting to launch this celebration of Drum & Bass? They told us…
“Our reason for launching the campaign is because we have an unconditional love Drum & Bass and we want to celebrate it on a global scale by bringing the worldwide DNB community together! It’s been pivotal in the development of UK underground culture and has also shaped the dance music scene in countries across the world, so we thought what better way than making 17.4 Drum & Bass Day.“
What Will Happen On Drum & Bass Day?
On the day, and in the lead up to the 17th April, they will be celebrating with a dedicated schedule of activities featuring some very special guests. The D&B community can keep track and make their voices heard by using the hashtag #DrumAndBassDay on social media.
With one of the most loyal and dedicated followings in the underground music scene, the love for Drum & Bass stretches far and wide. Often neglected by the mainstream, the scene has continued to thrive thanks to this incredible support from the DNB family. Fingers cross Drum & Bass Day can be officially stamped on the calendar to help spread a little love in these tough times.
