Goldie & Beverly Knight collaborated for an amazing rendition of Goldie’s Timeless classic ‘Inner City Life’ for the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2022 which took place in Birmingham (UK).
The performance was enjoyed by 30,000 people in attendance at Birmigham’s Alexander Stadium, with a further audience of 4.8 million tuning in to watch on TV!
Commonwealth Games 2022
The Commonweath Games closing ceremony celebrated the music of Birmingham & the West Midlands, featuring artists such as Apache Indian, Musical Youth, UB40, Punjabi MC, Dexys Midnight Runners & Laura Mvula.
The show closed out with a very rare, suprise performance from the Second City’s most infamous icon, Ozzy Osborne & his legendary heavy metal band Black Sabbath.
Goldie & Beverly Knight
Both hailing from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, Goldie & Beverly Knight performed on the stage inspired by the landscape of the areas industrial heritage.
Addressing Beverly Knight on his social media, Goldie said “you really did the piece proud for all of us…Let’s make some music”
This isn’t Beverly Knights first foray into drum & bass. Back in 2004 she appeared on the ‘Return To V’ album by Roni Size, performing on the track ‘No More’ with Dynamite MC.
Inner City Life
Inner City Life was originally sung by Diane Charlemagne who sadly passed away in 2015.
The track was released on Goldie’s debut album ‘Timeless’, a pivotal album for the D&B genre, which recently celebrated 25 years since it was first released.
