The week sees the long overdue release of new music from the legendary Playaz Recordings label in the form of Return Of The Dubplate Killa – Vol 1.
The EP features tracks from label stalwarts DJ Hazard, Crystal Clear, Tyke & Prestige, plus the title track from the original True Playa himself DJ Hype, alongside Heist & Daddy Earl.
Despite having been prolific in the studio at the turn of the millennium on his Ganja Records imprint, and regular collaborations with Pascal & Zinc, it’s been a hot minute since we heard new music from Hype. Having ventured back into the studio during lockdown, and testing cuts out in his sets & radio shows over the past few years, his track on this EP is the first official DJ Hype release in years.
Playaz 2.0
Playaz 2.0 promises to be more of a family affair, with Hazard on board assisting Hype with A&R aspects of running the label. Speaking to UKF Hype said “I’ve always been someone who needs a wingman, someone to bounce off. Pascal is amazing in the business side of the label, but musically, I didn’t have no one else”. “If me and Hazard agree that a tune is decent, we’ll release it.”
With a forthcoming Playaz night scheduled at Phonox, London this June, another 2 instalments lined up for the Dubplate Killa EP series, and an artist LP from Tyke, it looks like we’ve got lots to look forward to!!
