Has XOYO London Closed Down?

Has XOYO London, the subterranean playground that has served as a cornerstone for the capital’s underground scene, officially announced its closure?

Taking to social media on 2nd January, via an Instagram reel, the venue announced it has closed down. While the news has sent shockwaves through the electronic music community, it possibly marked the final chapter for a venue that consistently championed Drum & Bass at the highest level.

D&B Memories from XOYO

For D&B heads, XOYO hasn’t just a club; it’s been the site of some of the genre’s most legendary “I was there” moments. At LoveThatBass, we’ve spent years covering the high-octane residencies that defined the venue’s Friday nights.

Who could forget the mythical 13-week residency from Andy C, which saw the Executioner sell out the entire run in record time and quite literally crash the club’s website? Or the groundbreaking Problem Central takeover, which made history as the first MC-led monthly residency at the venue.

From the deep, dark sounds of S.P.Y’s DARKMTTR takeover to the high-energy “Playaz Dungeon” vibes of DJ Hype’s residency, XOYO provided an intimate, low-ceilinged pressure cooker that perfectly suited the weight of a D&B bassline. It was also a place where we at LoveThatBass felt right at home, even hosting the Green Room during the SASASAS residency to showcase our own label talent.

New Ownership

While the post by XOYO may have stated ‘Closed Down’, it has in fact been purchased by events entrepreneur Kirk Allen. Having already established himself with The Warehouse in Leeds, and Rise Festival in the Alps, Allen is seeing in a whole new chapter as the head of XOYO London.

His first job as the new custodian of the venue is a full refurbishment, which is being documented on the XOYO social media channels.

Allen is promising to bring back some iconic DJs the venue. Let’s hope there are plenty more D&B memories to be made in this amazing London club in the years to come under his stewardship.
