DJ Zinc Breaks Down His Process

-

As part of their ‘My Process’ video series, sustainable headphone brand AIAIAI linked with dance music don DJ Zinc to show us a glimpse behind the curtain on how he makes music.

Production nerds will want to watch as Zinc reveals the secrets of his signature style, how he combines leading modern technology with years of experience and old school know-how to create the perfect breakbeat.

Zinc’s Process

No Excuses

Zinc shows how he creates authentic sounds with a contemporary edge. Zinc states that with the technology now available to music makers there are simply “no excuses“.

Having created some of his biggest records with just a laptop, a pair of headphones and a good idea, Zinc talks honestly about his approach to music making, with plenty of advice and tips for up and coming producers and artists.

DJ Zinc said of the ‘My Process’ video that it was “An opportunity to sit back, reflect, and go a bit deeper on my approach to music production and career. I also wanted to get across how there are no excuses when it comes to making music now; That high barrier in terms of equipment and studio space no longer exists, and there’s no obstacle between inspiration and execution

Who Is DJ Zinc?

London-based dance music DJ and record producer Zinc is known for pioneering new styles, and has consistently redefined his sound over the years.

From his roots in hardcore and rave, Zinc made his mark producing some of dance music’s most definitive anthems on labels such as Ganja, True Playaz, Rinse & his own Bingo and Crack House imprints.

A string of era defining releases such a ‘Super Sharp Shooter’, the colossal bootleg of The Fugees ‘Ready Or Not’, plus a taste of major record label deals as part of The Ganja Cru (alongside DJ Hype & Pascal) raised DJ Zinc to the top of the 90’s jungle / D&B scene. He also recorded under the Dope Skillz & Jammin alias’.

Multi Genre Hits

The experimental ‘138 Trek’ went on to break the UK Top 30 becoming a UK Garage smash. More recent chart success has come in the shape of ‘Wile Out’, a collaboration with Ms. Dynamite. His latest releases on Rinse, Armada, and via his own label Bingo, include collaborations with Chris Lorenzo, MY Nu Leng, Shift Key and JackBeats.

Zinc is one of a handful of producers skilled enough to jump effortlessly between musical genres, and is one of few artists who can claim to have had genuine underground and commercial hits across house, breakbeat, UK garage and drum & bass, having sold over 1,000,000 physical records across his own productions and labels.
